our lives put on hold - words from the residents
In May 2002 our lives were put on hold.
This is a dedication to the life and times of the people who have lived, and others who are still living, in the Department of Housing area of Minto during the demolition and renewal of their homes. Some of the residents have been relocated, probably never to return. This website is a record of the memories of tenants, their experiences, joys and hopes, in the area that was to give them new hope. Also captured are the stories of those who worked alongside them.
With the advent of the Brown Sisters, the Franciscan Friars and various other helpful agencies, the area began to thrive, then along came the Housing Minister flanked by the media, We are going to demolish all the townhouses in Minto and build a new Minto!
Relocation came very quickly after that and it all began to change. The changes, stories and memories of life in Minto are to be found on this website.
