Ive made friends for life in Minto
Ive lived in Minto for as long as I can remember. I moved to America with my family then moved back to Minto again. All I can say about Minto is the people are the friendliest people youll ever find. Theyre more than a community, theyre like your family.
Everyone can say what they like about Minto but the one thing that I love, and will always remember about Minto, is the friendly people. The cleaners in Minto Mall who always have a story to tell you. They dont just clean there, they share their story with you.
We move next year but were still not sure where were going to go. Itll be so weird, not going up to Pendergast Avenue to Friendship Way. But I guess your home is where your family is. So wherever my family decides to go is where Ill go.
Im going to miss Minto. I think just knowing that most of the people Ive grown up with arent there anymore. When you drive past, it seems just so empty. It doesnt even look like people were there. I think for other people, that house would just be a house, that tree is just a tree. But to us, growing up, playing out the front of that house and engraving our names on that tree…
We just had the best childhood. We could walk around till 10 o clock at night, mind you our mum would be running around looking! It was so safe. I dont know any other place where Id feel safe with my car unlocked. If your lights are left on, no matter how late it is, your neighbour will come and knock on your door and say, “Excuse me, your lights are on,” and stuff like that. Ive made friends for life in Minto — just an awesome group of people.

Minto is the place I'd rather be
I was really disappointed because Id come back down to Campbelltown from Manly, a really nice area, and I wasnt comfortable with the move because I really hated Minto so bad. I had the meanest thoughts about the place, but I stayed. It took me a week to fall in love with Minto. l just absolutely love Minto more than I love Macquarie Fields, thats where Im from, so thats a huge step.
Darren [Matahau] made me change. I got to meet all his friends and just hang out with them and then I stayed living with him for two months and then I had to go back home. I almost cried because thats how much I fell in love with Minto, I was so hooked.
Its okay being from Manly but you dont usually get, “Hello!” and “Good mornings!” and ‘”Whats going on?” Being from Minto, as soon as you wake up someones bound to call you and say, “Good morning! What are you doing today?” The people here are beautiful, theyre outgoing, they talk a lot. Theyve always got stories to tell you and theyre real stories, true stories.
I dont know why theyre trying to make it like a high class kind of place because I think that originally Minto is how it is because of the people. You appreciate the people, you appreciate the cultures, even when theres a whole heap of them. Minto is the place Id rather be.
