Debbie Woods
When we arrived, I walked in and said, “Oh my God!”

I’m nearly 49 and I’ve lived in Minto for nearly 18 years. When we arrived, I walked in and said, “Oh my God!” There were a lot of things which had to be fixed up. My husband and I actually spent a fair bit of money on this place. We had to paint, redo the kitchen and we ended up buying our own carpet as well. But I was very happy because of the size of it.

The happiest time in Minto was seeing my two children have children of their own, plus seeing the neighbourhood’s children grow up. They’ve all got their own children now.

I originally came from the Sutherland Shire. I grew up in Engadine and my husband grew up in Heathcote. I went to Engadine High and my husband went to Heathcote High, and the funniest thing was that he knew me because he used to say that I was stuck up, and I knew him just to say hello. We used to go out and we’d end up at dances and clubs and pubs. Then next minute I got a phone call from a girlfriend and she said, “How would you like to go to the club?” and I said, “Okay, I’ll meet you there,” and that’s where I met my husband. Next minute, we’re together.

As far as I know, in 2007 or 2008, we’ll most probably be moving, but hopefully we’ll get Minto; we like Minto. I’m hoping to stay because of my grandson. He goes to Sarah Redfern and I’d like to see him go right through to the high school here.
