I moved to Minto in 1988 … I am of samoan
background and remember that there were only 3
other samoan families that lived in Minto when we
moved there. There are a lot more Polynesian
families living here now. My son was born and
grew up in Minto going to Sarah Redfern Public
School. He is now going to the Sarah Redfern High
School. There have been many changes to the area.
A lot of the Dept of housing homes are slowly
going and new private residential homes are been
built. Its good to see this growth in the
Community. I remember looking out the back door
to our home and seeing the hills of Bow bowing.
There were only horses, sheeps and cows that
could be seen along that hillside. Now there are
only houses and more houses. Gone are the days
when you would have farm animals in your
neighbourhood. I have good memories of Minto and
even though we have only just moved from the area
I still am able to go back and catch up with
neighbours and friends.
ive been in minto 4 almost 30yrs this is all i no
being a single mum with 5 kids im just so
stressed its not right..i just got the dreaded
call a few days ago telling me my street is next
all i cud get out was well im not leavin minto im
just not i dont no anywhere else im terrified
stressed & angry not even having cancer compares
to this awefull feeling
Lived in Minto for many years as a kid to early
teenager. Went to school and was mates with the
likes of Kevin and Ken McGuiness, Ronald Jones
and lots of others that went on to make careers
and live full lives. I am still in touch with
some from there and have many memories. Although
sad, I think the rebuild was ness. Thanks for the
memories.
MISSING PERSONS
My family moved to Minto in 1977.
Mum got her dept-housing house. No one has heard
of Minto. The Bush Ian and I would call it. In
1986 tragedy hit home Ian Hollis Had went missing
it’s been 24years and have not heard from Ian or
seen him.If any one has information on Ian please
contact me dufour@y7mail.com or 0435139903or see
Mrs spaccavento
I have a Facebook page Missing Person
I think there should be a local site for missing
Persons
I lived in Minto 10 years ago in Madeira way, I
miss it so much, but at the time I didnt realise
it. It wasnt a bad place, never had any trouble
what so ever. I miss my town house, it was a
pretty big house for housing commision. I used to
go past there every now and then, wondering when
they would finally knock it down. Then a few
years later i went past and it was gone. I felt
sad, as this place was the first real home I had
since being left a single mum. It was a chance to
rebuild my life and get back on my feet. I
appreciated this, and although at the time it was
tough, they were some of the best times and
memories ive had. Hope every one from minto has
settled into their new place and good luck and
best wishes to you all.
hi what a great website i lived in minto most ive
my childhood and went to saraha and lived in
sarah way i was there the for year the the school
open . and left sarah in yr 11 . my life has
change alot but minto and my friends from then
are always with me in my heart . i have lost
contact with most of my friends from minto.
anyone that remembers a lisa walker from sarah
way email myself o stay@anitamotorinn.com .some
of my friends from high school cam brig, melinda
anna would love to get in contact with you . its
funny how your life changes and we all go in
different paths
would love to talk to anyone from my past
love lisa xxxx
Hi all. I can’t believe how this has grown.
Regards to everybody. Maybe we can have a reunion
in a few years time with the theme ‘look out
we’re back’.The place just hasn’t been the same
since we left.
i would like to see more photo’s of minto because
i have such fond memories of the area having
spent my childhood there. It is great to see some
people have great pride for their community. I
still remember the bon fires for news years,
something like that will always have a special
place in my heart. Keep up the great work
Well done on such an amazing project. Its almost
a shame theres not more stories.
I lived in Minto for all of my childhood - mostly
in Bowman Way and it was a lovely place to grow
up. There was always a sense of community
there. You could always go to a neighbour and be
safe - Neighbourhood watch was a matter of fact
not a label to put on the lettebox - a lot has
changed.
I have just come back from my sellout show off-
Broadway in New York and a six week sellout in
the world famous Speigletent in Edinburgh - and I
was a “houso” from Minto. Not bad eh!
Cheers!
We have received so much positive feedback about
the site, and people have sent us their stories.
We are adding this work onto the website this
week, so please check out some of the new stories.
It is great that people are missing minto this
much, why wouldnt they because it was a place
where you could get away with anything . Police
where to scared to come and and the home owner
occuppiers were terrorised day in every day, The
police couldnt do anything because the offenders
were MINORS,
A small number of houses in the stylus cresent is
still there and the Minors there are causing so
much trouble to people in Bhukati place and
surrounding area is unbelievable , Once again the
police cant do anything , ( just check the police
records)
In 1974 I was the first Youth Worker who worked
from the Community Centre. We had no centre so we
met in people’s homes and called them “Way
Groups” in the afternoon i would drive my organge
VW around and use a parachute and balls for after
school activities.
I remember those days with much warmth, the
people I met were amazing.
I am very happy about finding this site.
Cheers

lived in the area for 23yrs and went to Sarah
Redfern along with all of my brothers and sister.
My mum moved from her house on Mortimer a few
years ago and i was shocked when driving through
one day that my house i grew up in was gone and
so was every other house. I hope that the DOH can
fix the area up and make it the good old
community it once was. How great is it to see Mr
Gavin and Mrs Young still at the school and doing
good things i am sure. I hope all of you still in
the Minto community are doing well and staying
